What to Wear for Your Headshot Photography Session in Carleton Place
You’ve finally decided it was time to update your headshot photo and now comes one of the biggest decision of this entire process… What do I wear for my headshot photo?! As a professional photographer in the Carleton Place and Ottawa area I’ve compiled few things to consider when you’re planning out your outfit(s) for your next professional photo shoot!
What will the background be?
The biggest tip I could ever give is…Don’t match the background but compliment it. If you have a solid colour backdrop picked out, don’t wear the same colour because you will blend in and it won’t be very flattering in most situations. For example, wearing white in front of a white backdrop will wash you out and your shirt will be very bright or if you’re hoping to have your picture taken in a nature setting with lots of green you’ll blend in if you are wearing green. Make sure to pick out an outfit that looks good with your background.
Does your business have branding colours or a uniform?
If you’re a business owner or entrepreneur with branding colours, choosing to incorporate those colours in your outfit is an easy way to keep your photos consistent with your branding. If you wear a uniform or specific type of clothing while working it’s a good idea to take a few photos wearing that. (ex. scrubs, lab coat, etc.)Avoid wearing anything with other company logos or brand names on it.
What colours should you wear if you don’t have branding colours?
It’s natural to want to wear your favourite top but if this shirt has a busy pattern on it, it might be distracting in the photo. Solid colours or very subtle patterns are best. It’s also important to considering colours that work best with your skin tone.
Bring options and don’t be scared to wear layers
While making sure the colours you are wearing go well together (darker colours over lighter colours look best!, don’t be shy to throw on a blazer or jacket. Bring options that are fitted and work for your body type, avoid wearing cloths that are too big or made of clingy fabric.
Of course, these are just suggestions that I hope helped you narrow down outfit choices for your headshot photography session! If you need other tips or specific outfit suggestions reach out and we can help you!
