The season has arrived and it’s now time to start getting into the holiday spirit by taking some Christmas pictures! Here is what you need to know about having the Christmas pictures of your dreams this year!

Know the style of picture you want

What kind of pictures are you hoping to have at the end of the session? Are you aiming for a sophisticated family formal portrait with everyone looking at the camera smiling, funny pictures that will give you a good laugh for years to come or more of a casual cute family picture to use on your Christmas cards with the kids playing and laughing. No matter what the style is, it’s best to plan before hand and coordinate accordingly!

Coordinated vs Matching Outfits

Once you know the style of picture you are going for this will most likely be answered, are you going to coordinate your outfits or all wear something matching. If you’re going for the casual picture, matching outfits like pyjamas might be a great idea cuddled up in front of your fireplace. If you’re trying to capture more of a timeless portrait complimenting outfits within a holiday themed colour palette would be best.

It’s all about the location! Just kidding, kind of… We can definitely find something to make every location work but if you want the best results go somewhere that compliments your vision. Would a cozy at home shoot be your ideal setting? Perhaps it’s walking down main street under the lights hand in hand or even between rows of beautiful cedar trees.

Once you’ve got the style, outfits and location down my top tip is to make sure everyone arrives to the photography session with FULL belly’s! Nothing is worse than showing up with an empty stomach.
