Planning an at Home Photography Session
As a Family and Wedding Photographer in the Ottawa and Carleton Place Area, here is what my clients should expect when planning their home photography session!
What to expect
I always like to arrive early to a photography session. This gives me the chance to meet everyone who will be part of the session if we haven’t met already. Before I take my camera out, I like to have a tour of the house and we can figure out where the best spots for pictures will be. During the session, don’t stress over who’s looking where and who’s bouncing off the walls! We’ll get the shots you’re dreaming of, don’t worry. Once the session is over it typically takes me 2-3 weeks for me to send you your full image gallery.
Where should we shoot in the house?
The best place for us to take your pictures in your home is where the best natural lighting is! If you have a big living room window with nice lighting or your baby’s nursery room has beautiful soft light complimenting the neutral palette you picked out, you and your new fiance spend most of your time together cooking in your beautiful bright kitchen… that’s where we want to be!
What kind of props should be included?
The best props when you're doing a home photography session are cherished meaningful items. The images we take will tell the story of this moment in your life, include your child's handmade baby blanket or have your child show off his favourite toy... This type of photography session really tells a story better than any other type of session.
Zach is obsessed with this Tonka Truck that Andrew put together when he was a kid... It's been Zach's go to toy since the first time he saw it! So was it surprising when I said I need a picture of you at the door some how the truck made it in the pictures? Nope! haha but as his mom, I love it! He loves that truck and I want to remember this and be able to share these memories with him when he's older!
The biggest thing to keep in mind is have fun with it! You want to bake cookies during your session because you and your kids absolutely love Christmas Baking? LET’S DO IT! The sky is the limit.
