Must Have Wedding Photos!

When meeting with your photographer before the wedding, you’ll have so much to go over! You’ll want to talk about your wedding timeline, your bridal party if you have one, your vision for your day, the style of photos you like and more! Something I ask my clients during our pre-wedding consultation is “What are your must have photos?” surprisingly, quite a few couples don’t really think of it before hand. Therefore, I always encourage couples who are starting their search for a wedding photographer to sit down and come up with their must have pictures before even reaching out to a photographer. Why? Because every photographer offers different packages, hours of coverage and often have a specific style of photography. If you already know what you’re looking for this will make it easier to find the right photographer for you.

Here are a few of my favourite/must have photos to take during a wedding day:

  • Bride getting her veil set in her hair

  • Candid moments of everyone getting excited for the big moment!

  • First Look (Not necessarily a first look with your fiancé, this can be a special family member or even your wedding party!)

  • Walking down the aisle (We tend to hype up the grooms reaction to seeing his bride walk down the aisle… but capturing the brides reaction is just as important to me!)

  • Laughter and raw emotions during the ceremony

  • A Traditional Portrait (Even if you prefer candid photos, I always take the opportunity to capture at least one classic photo and I promise you’ll thank me for it later!)

  • Bridal Party and Family (Here is a quick tip for family photos to go smoothly: have a list prepared of all the groupings you will want and don’t be shy to share that with your guests! This avoids having to rush around to find anyone who should be in the photos.)

  • First Dance

Can you request specific shots to be added to our wedding day shot list? ABSOLUTELY! It’s your day and we want to make sure every memorable detail and moment is captured for you. Keep in mind, these are only a few of my favourite must have photos during a wedding day to inspire you, this is not a complete list! I encourage couples who are getting married and reaching out to photographers to sit down and go through the timeline of their day writing down the moments they hope are captured.
