Tips For Picking Your Photo Shoot Outfit

What you choose to wear to your photography session might be more important than you think. Here are a few tips to remember when you are choosing your outfit.

Choose a Matching Colour Palette

Before even thinking about your outfit, you’ll want to consider what look you want for your pictures. If you’re taking fall pictures darker colours are typically good vs wearing pastels for a summer shoot. Make sure everyone is dressing for the location of the photo shoot. Once you’ve picked your colour scheme ensure everyone in the frame will be wearing something within that colour palette to create a uniform look. Try to avoid matching EVERYONE in the same colour, you’ll want to pick colours that go well together with layers that pull the look together. A great way to do this is by shopping at the same store for everyone's outfit!

Avoid Patterns

Patterns can be a bit distracting and at times overwhelming when posing for a portrait especially if multiple people in the shot are wearing patterns. Try to avoid patterns and graphics on your cloths when you are picking out your outfits.

Stay Clear of Bright Colours

Unless neon is the theme of your picture try to stay CLEAR! Different colours may reflect on your skin effecting your skin tone. Natural tones are typically best.

Darker Colours are Your Friend

As most of us know black is flattering on most people and translates well in a photograph. Therefore if you are at a loss while picking out your outfit darker neutral colours are always a safe bet.

White is Bright and Airy

White or light pastel colour pallets brighten up the pictures and can help create a bright and airy feel to your photography session.

Be Yourself

Pick something that you actually like and feel good in. If you have a favourite outfit and it fits the theme wear it! If you are uncomfortable it will come through during your shoot.
